The project involves the transformation of an existing industrial/commercial building into a contemporary residential development in Berlin. The five-story building, including a basement, is reorganized into independent apartments on each level, adapting its original layout to meet new housing requirements.
The intervention primarily focuses on the building’s shared spaces and systems, including the renovation of circulation cores, the upgrading of staircases, and the modernization of the elevator. Fire safety measures are integrated throughout the project, such as the installation of fire-rated doors and the structural upgrading of key elements to comply with current regulations.
From a construction perspective, the project combines selective demolition with targeted new interventions to enhance overall functionality. These include the opening and closing of structural voids, reinforcement of existing elements, and the complete upgrade of technical installations. Interior finishes in common areas are also renewed, prioritizing durability, indoor environmental quality, and low-impact materials.
The result is a balanced refurbishment that preserves the character of the original building while introducing contemporary standards of comfort, safety, and performance, successfully adapting the property to its new residential use without losing its architectural identity.
