The idea began in 2006 on the Berlin Wall Trail. Ana Salinas and Gilbert Wilk first imagined a boutique hotel inside the larger Liesenbrücke; the scheme grew into a mixed-use ensemble. CapRate joined as investor in 2017. Design and approvals reached work stage 4. Deutsche Bahn has since reclaimed the bridge. The project is on hold.
The two surviving steel bridges of 1896/97 are remnants of the north–south railway and of Wilhelmine engineering. After 1961 they sat in the border strip and slipped out of the city. The larger bridge is to become a three-storey, step-free public venue of about 2,000 m² inside the existing steel frame, with the truss left visible. The smaller bridge becomes a foot and cycle path between Humboldthain and Nordbahnhof Park. A new hotel on Scheringstraße forms the entrance and underwrites the ensemble. Heritage, new architecture and a missing piece of green — on the Wall Trail, close to Hauptbahnhof.
