[ OVERVIEW ]

Battersea Blue Blaze transforms the Thames waterfront into a dynamic urban experience. Positioned along the Battersea Power Station pier, the project introduces a suspended pool and public space that creates a strong dialogue between water, architecture, and the city, redefining how people engage with the river and its edge condition

Battersea Blue Blaze

The project redefines public space along the Thames through an architectural intervention that seamlessly integrates the river, the pier, and the surrounding urban landscape. At its core, a suspended swimming pool floats above the waterfront, forming a striking landmark that engages both residents and visitors. The continuous sequence of pathways and viewing platforms transforms spatial perception, offering constantly shifting perspectives and reinforcing a fluid relationship between architecture and water.

The project positions architecture as an active framework for urban life, connecting multiple layers of public experience. Interconnected areas, floating gardens, and circulation routes link the river, the pier, and the city, creating a continuous and immersive environment. The suspended pool extends beyond its functional role as a bathing facility, becoming a central social condenser where leisure, sport, and interaction converge. By day, the space supports swimming, relaxation, and informal gathering, fully integrated with the natural dynamics of the Thames.

A key element of the project is its retractable accordion-style roof, designed to modulate light, shadow, and environmental conditions throughout the day. This lightweight and adaptive structure transforms the spatial atmosphere, enabling the project to shift between open-air and sheltered configurations. It supports a wide range of uses, from daytime leisure activities to evening cultural events and private gatherings, without compromising structural clarity or visual impact.

Through the combination of structural innovation and urban strategy, Battersea Blue Blaze demonstrates how architecture can extend the possibilities of waterfront environments, creating flexible, engaging, and continuously evolving public space.
